Get Heeled 5K - This Weekend!

Some of you may know that I work closely with a group in Chapel Hill called the Pink Pacers to raise money to fight cancer. I've been with the Pink Pacers for more than five years and we have grown into group of men, women and children who believe in giving back to the local community, promoting healthy living and fighting cancer!

Whether it is before, during or post treatment, we care. Over the past 5 years, we have all been affected by so many cancers in men, women and children. Every time we hear of someone diagnosed we think, well…we need to fight one that too. We want to give back and make a different in the local community.

This year, we are proud to be part of the first Get Heeled 5K! The Get Heeled 5K is this weekend in Chapel Hill, NC and we are setting a goal of $75,000 to go directly to Get REAL & HEEL! $75,000 will allow 50 women to go through the program for free, 100% completely free! Get REAL & HEEL is a unique program designed to serve breast cancer patients throughout the Triangle area. Integrating exercise, recreational therapy and strengthening the mind and body, women are able to get support to manage their cancer treatment related symptoms and increase chances of survivorship and quality of life.

The 5k will begin at 9 AM on October 22, 2011 at the Friday Center Commuter Lot. The participants will run or walk through Meadowmont and return back to the Friday Center Commuter Lot for a celebration and 1 mile family walk! The family walk begins at 10am – kids are free to participate in this event! The Celebration Zone will be full of life by the time participants are finished the the 5k and 1 mile walk.. the Celebration Zone will include free food, children’s activities, auctions, sponsor tables with activities, give-a-ways, music and more! The Get Heeled 5K was recently featured on My Carolina Today - check out some of the Pink Pacers here!

I've been officially designated the decorating diva for all of our events, so I'm in the midst of puffing tons of pink puff balls for race decorations.

We had a crafty afternoon a couple of weeks ago to create decorations for a sponsor party. We managed to spend very little and turn the entire top of The Carolina Brewery pink! We used pink puffs, garland made from paint samples and pink lollipops stuck into pink cotton candy. Let's just say there's been lots of pink around here this October - and pink paint samples were definitely scarce in the local DIY stores!

I've set up a fundraising page for my participation in the 5K this weekend, so if you're interested in donating to this wonderful cause and supporting the Pink Pacers, click here to donate online!
