The Return of a Tiger

So, have you seen the new commercial and what do you think? Personally, I say bravo to Nike for putting it out there and confronting the issue. How else are they going to stand by Tiger? They absolutely have to address it. This commercial has gotten good reviews and bad reviews - but one thing has happened - the Nike brand is on everyone's lips again, and ultimately, that's every marketer's goal. Are they getting too personal with this? My opinion - no - because the press and celebrity media have done everything they can to dig up stories on Tiger and they have shared every tidbit of information they can about his personal life. Nike, with Tiger's permission, approached it head on and I applaud them.

If you read my blog often, you know I have close ties to golf through my husband and Tiger has always been my favorite player. I don't agree with what he has done in his personal life, but I still think he is an amazing athelete. I've always loved Tiger and Nike's collaborations, so can't wait to see the next installment in this chapter.

In the words of the legendary David Ogily:
"Advertising reflects the mores of society, but it does not influence them."
"Don't bunt. Aim out of the ball park. Aim for the company of immortals.

  1. Yes, I saw it. My husband is a golfer and has always been a fan of Tiger as a golfer. My opinion: If Tiger approved, which he obviously did, let it be. Also, Tiger messed up. big time. He has apologized. He needs to move on. We need to leave him alone. It is not ours to judge. If he asks, God will forgive him. That's all Tiger needs. Don't judge him. Pray for him. Let's play golf Tiger.

  2. I think he just needs to play golf. Something else or someone else will come along and replace Tiger's drama with some other drama and 2,3,5 years from now it will probably (sadly) seem routine and mundane.

  3. Good thinking on the part of Nike, I must admit. I can't believe Nike has stood behind him. Not on my TV, but I still love ya anyway!

  4. We're all human and make mistakes. It's time to learn from it and move on.

  6. Wow. I didn't see that before. I must say that like Tiger in the commercial, I'm speechless. I don't know what to think but I don't think it's a negative thing but more of a positive thing.

  7. I respect Tiger as a golfer, an athlete...

    A husband- NOT SO MUCH.

He needs to golf. He needs to shut up and move on.

We closely follow golf, we golf as a family- all six of us. We used Tiger's indiscretions as a teaching moment and then moved on.

The petty part of me, wishes I was at the Masters holsing a sign that says, "I slept with him too."

  8. Hmm I heard allll about this commercial on XM radio when I was driving home from Florida on Friday. They were battling about it the ENTIRE time. Half of the radio hosts liked it and half of them hated it. I don't really know...I was never a huge Tiger fan (b/c I don't watch golf) so I am neutral to it all really. But it is interesting to hear everyone's takes on it all.

  9. I thought this commercial was so interesting. Whatever someone's take is on the spot, Nike certainly achieved what it desired - everyone talking!
